Named after its birthplace, the ring originated in the fishing village of Claddagh on the west coast of Ireland. Though there are many legends surrounding the tale of the ring's design, one particularly romantic legend goes like this: Richard Joyce was supposed to be married to his true love. Before the wedding could take place, however, he was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery, Eventually, he was indentured to a goldsmith and there he learned to make jewelry. He created a ring with two hands cradling a crowned heart and when he eventually managed to escape his indenture, he brought the ring back to Claddagh with him. His beloved had not married during his long absence, so he gave her the ring he'd made and they were married immediately. Of course, they lived happily ever after! Size 24cm.
